Summary

What is Cal/OSHA, and why should you care? Cal/OSHA enforces employee safety and health in nearly all places of work in California. As such, either your work place, or your client’s, will likely be impacted by Cal/OSHA at some point. We will discuss the Division’s mandate, enforcement, applicable regulations and basic administrative process, as well as the impact of citations and penalties issued by Cal/OSHA.

Defamation, Privacy and Social Media, Free Speech and NLRB Issues While employers often understandably focus on California wage and hour and discrimination laws, they should also be aware of other lesser-known important employee rights. This section of the presentation will focus on the important laws concerning defamation, privacy and social media, free speech, and NLRB issues, and
particular issues employers should be aware of during the hiring process, during employment, and before disciplining or terminating an employee.

Conducting Employee Investigations. Structures, Pot Holes and Sink Holes Human Resource professionals need to develop techniques for investigating potential inappropriate workplace behaviors. We are often called on to identify what happened, when and where it happened, and then decide what to do with the findings. In this session, we will discuss a framework for conducting effective internal investigations involving employees. We’ll cover how to plan, structure and interview. Finally, we’ll review how to assess and present what you have discovered.
