Need a Lawyer? Let us Help You Find the Right One!
There is a $100 non-refundable intake fee for us to analyze your legal matter, locate an attorney; this also includes an initial consultation with an attorney, up to 30 minutes. This fee goes to running this non-profit referral service.

NOTE: Sonoma County Bar Association’s (SCBA) Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) serves a growing community of nearly one-half million people, and strives to serve Sonoma County to the best of our ability, with a small and dedicated professional staff. From time to time, as demand for our services grow, potential clients experience a delay in our case intake system, and responses to emailed forms and phone messages may be delayed. For that reason, and to be certain you don’t miss any important deadlines, it’s urgent to know this: If you have a court date, hearing, or need to respond to a date that is 30 DAYS OR LESS, please seek other resources to meet your IMMEDIATE needs.
If you need an interpreter, please let SCBA staff know when you contact us. We will do our best to source an interpreter in your preferred language when calling you back.

Q: DO YOU OFFER PRO BONO/FREE LEGAL SERVICES?
A: Our network of lawyers do not work for free and we do not provide a list of pro bono attorneys. We refer you to a qualified private practice attorney in our network based on your specific legal needs.
We do, however, have a Modest Means Program for clients with limited resources. Qualified applicants will be referred to a lawyer who will provide a consultation, up to 30 minutes. If hired, they have agreed to charge a reduced hourly fee of $175, $200 or $225, depending on the applicant’s household size and gross monthly income. Our Modest Means attorneys agree to this reduced rate for at least one year from the date of hire. After that initial year, it’s up to the attorney and client to agree upon the cost of services going forward.
Q: WHAT IS A LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE?
A: The Sonoma County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service (Certified by the State Bar of California, Certification #0056) is designed to assist people in finding the right lawyer at the right time. More than 40 attorneys who are experienced in 25 major fields of law are available to serve you.
Q: HOW DOES IT WORK?
A: When you call our office, a counselor experienced with analyzing legal problems will help you determine the nature of your legal situation. If the services of an attorney are needed, the counselor will provide you with the name and contact information of an attorney who has agreed to meet with you. You are under no obligation to retain the attorney to whom you are referred. If a referral to a consumer, governmental or public service agency is in your best interest, the counselor will be glad to direct you.
Q: WHAT DOES IT COST?
A: Our service collects a $100 non-refundable intake fee to refer you to an attorney. This fee helps us run our program and makes it possible to offer this valuable service to members of the community like you. With your referral, you get an initial consultation with an attorney who handles your type of problem. If you retain the attorney for legal services, then the fees charged will be at the attorney's normal rate.
Q: WHY SHOULD I USE THE SONOMA COUNTY BAR ASSOCIATION’S LAWYER REFERRAL SERVICE?
A: We are the ONLY full-service lawyer referral service in Sonoma County that is certified by the State Bar of California. As such, our service must meet high standards for quality and fairness. Our goal is to provide the public with increased access to our legal system. Our member attorneys must meet strict requirements to serve on any of our 25 legal panels. They are all members in good standing of the State Bar of California, must have malpractice insurance, and must have demonstrated experience in their respective field of law.
We helped thousands of Sonoma County residents with their legal problems last year. Let us help you with yours.
Our program offers assistance in over 20 different areas of law, some of which include:
