Course Description/Goals:
Ethics of Advertising & Social Media: This MCLE program examines the ethical boundaries of attorney advertising and social media use under the California Rules of Professional Conduct, including recent developments and common pitfalls. Attendees will gain practical guidance on maintaining compliance while effectively promoting their practice in today’s digital landscape.


Learning Objectives:
? Identify the key provisions of the California Rules of Professional Conduct governing attorney advertising and solicitation, including their application to websites and social media platforms.
? Distinguish between permissible marketing and prohibited or misleading communications, with attention to endorsements, testimonials, and specialization claims.
? Analyze common ethical pitfalls arising from social media use, including issues related to confidentiality, inadvertent attorney-client relationships, and improper solicitation.
? Apply the rules to real-world scenarios involving digital marketing to evaluate compliance and mitigate risk.
? Develop best practices for maintaining an ethical and effective online presence consistent with California regulatory requirements.
