New Housing Laws for 2020

Join us for a workshop on the new housing legislation enacted by the California State Legislature. The presentation will focus on the major changes to housing law that went into effect in January 2020. From new tenant protections (like Just-Cause Eviction and rent cap) to changes to mobile home park law to an overhaul of ADU ordinances, there is a lot to learn. This presentation will focus mostly on new tenant protections and offer an analysis of the new laws and a discussion of their implications for attorneys that practice landlord/tenant law.

Clark, Shelley
Shelley Clark, Housing Policy Attorney, Legal Aid of Sonoma County

Ms. Clark is a native of Florence, Mississippi. She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 2011 with a B.A. in international studies and French and a minor in environmental studies. After graduating and spending a year adventuring in Denver, CO, she moved to New York City to begin her studies at Pace Law School. After two years of legal study at Pace, she began a joint-degree program with the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies in New Haven, Connecticut. Ms. Clark graduated from the joint-degree program in May of 2016 with a Juris Doctor from Pace Law and a Master of Environmental Management from F&ES. At Pace and F&ES, she focused her work and studies on land use law and environmental justice. Upon graduation, she moved to Marin, where she worked at Fair Housing Advocates of Northern California, assisting vulnerable populations with concerns of discrimination and disability-related issues in housing. Ms. Clark currently works as the Housing Policy Attorney at Legal Aid of Sonoma County where she works to foster housing policies that benefits low-income people. Ms. Clark has been instrumental in the formation of the Sonoma County Tenants Union.

Hirsch, Martin
Martin Hirsch, Attorney, Perry, Johnson, Anderson, Miller & Moskowitz

Mr. Hirsch practices in the areas of business transactions, real estate transactions, HOA and public agency governance, landlord-tenant disputes, business entity formation and governance, purchase and sale of businesses, construction transactions, and land use law. He joined Perry Johnson in June of 2013. Prior to joining the firm, he practiced in San Diego in the areas of construction litigation, business transactions, and hospitality. Mr. Hirsch obtained his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in 2007. He is a member of the Sonoma County Bar Association and the Community Associations Institute.
