Firearms, Ammunition, and the Law

In these times, it is necessary to keep updated on the new laws that apply in California. This presentation will cover Proposition 63 and its effects since its passage in November 2016; the effects different firearms, including semi-automatic rifles (AR 15, etc.) and high velocity ammunition, have on human bodies; and an explanation by a gun dealer/owner of various transfer issues.

Mitchell, Jeff
Jeff Mitchell
Sonoma County Public Defender’s Office

For over 20 years Jeff Mitchell has been an attorney with the Sonoma County Public Defender’s office. He has defended numerous high profile cases including murder and gang cases and has had numerous firearm related cases. Mr. Mitchell is an expert with personal knowledge of firearms. California now has some of the strictest firearms law in the nation. This seminar will provide an overview of these changes that include: theft/loss reporting of firearms; lending of firearms; large capacity magazine restrictions; assault weapons restrictions, ammunition restrictions; handgun storage requirements, and surrender of firearms by prohibited persons (based on criminal convictions and restraining orders). This seminar will be of benefit not only to criminal trial attorneys (defense and prosecutor) but also to civil attorneys, especially those dealing with Family Law, and Elder/Health Law.
