Social Security for Family Law Practitioners

This program will explore aspects of disability law including Social Security Disability under Title II and Title XVI, Workers’ Compensation benefits and State Disability benefits and how they affect the determination of both child and spousal support. Tax aspects will be discussed as well as the complex issue of offsets of one benefit against the others.

Bayles-Fightmaster, Louise (Hon.)Commissioner Louise Bayles-Fightmaster (Ret.)

Commissioner Bayles-Fightmaster served as Sonoma County’s family law facilitator and then the child support commissioner from 1997 until her retirement in 2016. Commissioner Bayles-Fightmaster is a certified family law specialist and practiced both family law and estate planning for 15 years prior to working at the Court. Commissioner Bayles-Fightmaster now has a private judging and mediation practice. In addition to her outstanding work from the bench, Commissioner Bayles-Fightmaster has been active in numerous family law-related local and state committees and task forces. She was a member of the Elkins Task Force, the Elkins Implementation Task Force, the Family and Juvenile Advisory Task Force. She received the Sonoma County Family Law Section’s Rex Sater Award in 2009 and the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Family Law Executive Committee of the State Bar in 2015.

Bill has been a certified Workers’ Compensation specialist since 1980. Now as Ferchland Law Office, he practices with daughter Katie Ferchland Boriolo and son William W. Ferchland in representing individuals with claims for Social Security Disability under Title II, Workers’ Compensation and State Disability Insurance.
